quddisa sirruhu — may his secret be sanctified
Sirhind, India · 971 – 1034 AH / 1564 – 1624
Born on 10 Muharram 971 AH in Sirhind, India, he was a descendant of Sayyidina ʿUmar (Ibn al-Khattāb) al-Fārūq (ر) and deeply immersed in Qur’an, hadith, and the sciences of four major tariqats: Naqshbandi, Qadiri, Chishti, and Suhrawardi. He became the spiritual axis of his time and was praised in visions by the Prophet ﷺ. He was known as the "Reviver of the Second Millennium," Mujaddid Alf Thani. He died in Safar at the age of 63 and was buried in the village of Sirhind.

Imam Rabbani was known for guiding his students not only to fana’ (annihilation) but through the rarer, deeper path of baqa’ (subsistence in God), then returning to guide others. He emphasized that Naqshbandiyya begins where other paths end, starting with descent from Allah back to creation. He wrote many books, one of the most famous of which is the Maktubat.
